Recently this past week, my cousin Nicole Dishuk (age 31...newly graduated student with a doctoral degree about to start her new career as a Doctor...) was flown into a nearby hospital, because she passed out.

They found a blood clot in her neck, and immediately took her by helicopter to the ER to operate. By the time they removed the right half of her skull to relieve the pressure on her brain; the clot had spread to her brain causing severe damage.

Since last Wednesday night, she was battling... they induced her into a coma to stop the blood flow, they operated 3 times... Finally, they said there was nothing left that they could do... they found multiple clots in the left side of her brain... the swelling wouldn't stop, and she was on life support...

She died at 4:30 yesterday. She leaves behind a husband, a 2yr old Brandon and a 4yr old Justin... The CAUSE of DEATH - they found was a birth control she was taking that allows you to only have your period 3 times a year... They said it interrupts life's menstrual cycle, and although it is FDA approved.... shouldn't be - So to the women in my address book - I ask you to boycott this product & deal with your period once a month - so you can live the rest of the months that your life has in store for you.

don't know if being kind is wrong or selfish is right in this instance..

lend my car to a colleague of mine (sensitive issue, so no names mentioned) which he had borrowed a few times already.. there wasn't any issue, until yesterday..

he borrowed my car again (claimed he go bank).. while he was supposed to come back office, he called and said he can't engage the handbrake.. i told him to press the button, pull slightly upwards and put it down..

after a while, he reached office.. nothing mentioned so i thought the car it's fine.. then came my turn to drive.. i couldn't engage the handbrake too!! was fidgeting with it and even had to get my other colleagues to help but failed..

bo bian.. so today i made a call to Toyota (i'm driving a vios) to 'check' what happen..

BUT i wasn't the least happy at all..

while i was waiting for the tow truck to arrive, this colleague of mine still got the cheek to ask if i could lend him the car again!! ya, so what you offered to drive to the service centre?? hello!! the handbrake is already loosen (i.e. the car could actually move even with the handbrake engaged).. you still want to drive even though you know my car got problem???

now, what or where's the logic?? at first i still feel alright.. however, right after he asked, i told myself NO more next time.. (of coz', few of 'kind' colleagues did mentioned next time don't anyhow borrowed car to people already)

after some verification and diagnosis, Toyota changed some parts of the handbrake.. and more lucky is, it's free (they wanted to charge $100 initially) this time.. ;D

my helpful colleague said: it's difficult to judge when it comes to responsibility issues.. who's to blame?? charge or don't charge??

another kind colleague said: it's not like i lend you my PSP; you spoilt it; just replaced and that's it.. this is a car we're talking about.. it's not that easy..

lesson learnt!!

... the curious case of benjamin button ..

i managed to catch this show 'the curious case of benjamin button'.. touching show indeed.. though it's a 166mins (2hrs 45mins) show but it sure had the loving feelings of a love story behind.. (heard andy lau acted in a similar movie too)

by the time the show finished, it's already pass midnight as we caught the 2145 show.. took a cab home as my car broke down.. :'( more details coming up ~ stay tuned!)

it's a story of a man and a woman (as usual) who met, fell in love and then left each other in the opposite directions.. well, benjamin was born old.. real scary as he had the skin of an 80 years old, old man.. old people problems that was attached to it too..

afterwhich, he met this girl called daisy.. they fell in love later on.. however, they are not on the same track.. she's getting old each day while benjamin is getting younger instead.. they crossed their path half way between their lives.. they had a baby girl, dorothy.. later on, benjamin passed away as a baby while daisy died in the hospital after dorothy finished reading the sad love story to her mum..

i was almost in tears when bejamin said "she needs a father, not a playmate".. he never had the chance to see dorothy grow up..

you should not missed this if you haven't watch! :P

when i see the sms, took me a while to reply him.. crudely, i told him not to follow trend.. i'm sorry if i offended all the to-be separated or divorced people but that's the last thing i ever imagined that will happen to him..

he always been a brotherly figure to me.. has no temper, goody good guy.. never occurred to me that one day he will stop the "i now pronounce you husband and wife" thing..

last nite was my accounting coursework 2 aka MCQs...

*&%&! ~　it's really difficult lor.. 有沒有搞錯？！gives us so many calculations questions.. dear lecturers, we only have 40mins to do 20 questions lei.. u really think it's sufficient meh??

anyway, i'm only confident on the first 5.. the rest, have to depend on miracle again.. haiz, i think miracle wun happen so many times hor???　guess got to work hard on my actual exam already..

as i rushed down to class today.. ok ok, not rushed as i send my sis to bugis first.. then i headed class so dinner was missed..

after this *&%&! test, we desperatrely need a break.. proceed to take my dinner first.. so i got energy for 2nd part of the night mah.. and my friend and i got no plans to go and we missed KTV, we suggest going singing instead..

so, both of us went Top One to hold our 個人演唱會 or rather it's a 周傑倫演唱會. both me and my friend sang non-stop for 3 hours.. just jay's songs alone makes up to 4 pages of the song request list!! wow! first time i ever sang KTV with such 壯舉。but, we shall do it again.. heng my friend didnt' select whole albums of jay's... else it's really going to be no-jay-syndrome for the next 3 months..

my family and i went in to KL by Tuas aka 2nd link on 24-Jan early morning (around 7am).. it's a nice weather. Sun wasn't too hot and AYE was smooth..

So, i thought maybe jam won't be that bad.. however, i was damn wrong.. really really wrong.. never in my life that i'm stuck in traffic jam for almost 4hours!!!

we were stuck way before the checkpoint.. way away from the bridge.. before F&N.. (if you know the way to 2nd link very well) me and my 3 younger siblings were in the car.. in order to kill time, we started to munch titbits, choco, biscuits, etc.. at one point my dad even wanted to U-turn and headed home.. haha.. of coz we didn't do that lah.. else, my grandma and uncle will say we bring them to holland le..

SELAMAT DATANG MALAYSIA!!

we cleared the customs at around 11am and the short road to malaysia customs were not too bad; only around 1hour.. what is 1hour compares to the earlier jam hor??

vroom vroom on the north-south highway.. we headed to malacca first before going to KL.. hee.. done a little shopping there.. oh boy, this year i really buy a lot of clothes!!

night falls when we reached KL.. tired tired.. so周公 jioed me for chess early..

wah i tell u, the spread is damn good!! once a year event mah, that’s why my grandma will cook good food.. comprise of fish, meat, veg, soup which round up to about 9 dishes.. being a cantonese herself, we will eat vegetarian on the first day, so our reunion dinner will be very very 豐富。

初一

was at my 4th uncle's place the whole afternoon.. oh, did i mention that my grandma stayed with him?? anyway, his house is the main focus points every year reunion and first day.. after the ang-pow giving session, off he goes to his in-laws place..

i realized each year we are going later and later to uncle's house.. i remember when we are younger, we would be there about 9am or 10am.. don't know why as we grow older, the 守時習慣 slowly fades away..

this year, we venture to a new shopping centre call Pavilion.. while walking there from the nearest LRT (what we called MRT), we passed berjaya times square.. while my cousins, siblings and mum used the toilet, i found something that i had plans with.. shopping + bowling!! haha.. so happy about it..

haha, now i know what i should do during my june holidays liao.. before i start my 2nd year should enjoy first.. woo hoo!! but stupid me, didn't check out the bowling prices so i don't know how much.. but but, i'm sure it's gonna be cheaper than Singapore..

hmmm.. *day dreaming starts*

maybe i could start with genting first.. but i don't gamble lei.. go there only becoz of the weather.. ask dan they all ba.. haha.. there are few places for selection.. Genting, Sunway Lagoon or KL..

*back to reality (after i nearly walk thru the wall)*

tonight it's my 伯母's turn to show off her excellent cooking.. everyone came over (except my 5th uncle's family ~ they went to Korea for holiday *green horn protruded from my head*)

same too, there are 9 dishes.. everyone enjoyed and followed after was the opening of the TAN's mini gambling den.. the gen 3 had mahjong with gen 2 giving advices and another side was the casino look alike..

saw this piece of news when i opened my yahoo mail browser this morning.. wow! economy is so bad and got our dear govt worried man..

may consider using the cash reserves that they had been keeping for years... hmm, they had billions and billions in few respective funds.. so does it necessary to justify? like what mr. goh mentioned, it's meant for rainy day but how do you define "rainy day"?

to me, when a country has the need to dip into their cash reserves, things are not going too good.. oh no, will there be more unemployment or retrenchment??? xiao liao..

SINGAPORE: As Singaporeans brace themselves for a difficult year, a strong response to the global recession will be needed in the upcoming Budget.

This could involve dipping into the carefully—guarded reserves of the country, according to Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

"It’s a difficult decision, because once you do that you may open the reserves for future demands which may not justify the use of the reserves. So, it’s an issue that the Prime Minister is thinking over very carefully," he said.

But Mr Goh stressed that such a move is intended for exceptional times.

"And we’ve always said, the reserves are for a rainy day. So if this is not a rainy day, I don’t know what is a rainy day. But nevertheless it has to be justified to the President. So, that’s an issue which Finance Minister and the Prime Minister would have to deliberate quite carefully," said Mr Goh.

When asked what this sum could amount to, Mr Goh’s reply was that it depends on the measures that would justify the use of the reserves.

Citing Singapore’s latest trade figures which declined sharply, he said that top on the government’s priority is to help businesses cut cost.

Mr Goh also noticed that 30 per cent of the cranes at PSA are sitting idle, with shipping freight figures close to zero.

"We must have a muscular response in the Budget. The key issue for us is how to save jobs. Of course, to have economic growth, you’ve got to stimulate demand. But this time it’s a global recession, and it’s beyond us. We can do what we can in Singapore, but it’s not going to solve our economic growth problem," said the senior minister.

Mr Goh was speaking to reporters after distributing hongbaos and gifts to about 40 needy residents at his Marine Parade constituency, an annual tradition for him.

This year, the increased cash assistance of S$100 in each hongbao could not have come at a better time for some families, as Singapore’s economic growth this year — which is forecast to be between minus 2 and plus 1 per cent — will be revised ahead of Thursday’s Budget.

On the issue of the investigations into the failed financial products such as those linked to Lehman Brothers, Mr Goh said there are lessons learnt from the episode and more measures will be put in place.

He refused to elaborate, saying: "I would not want to go into this, because there’s a question (to be) asked in Parliament (which sits on Monday)... MP will ask the question, so I let the question be answered in Parliament."

SINGAPORE, Jan 19 - Singapore is considering dipping into its reserves worth hundreds of billions of dollars for the first time to tackle an economic slump, as it plans a budget this week expected to fund infrastructure and tax rebates.

The government could draw on the central bank's foreign reserves that totalled $174.2 billion in December, or its two secretive sovereign funds GIC and Temasek that had at least a combined $230 billion in assets in reported figures last year.

"The reserves are sizeable, notwithstanding recent losses, which gives the government a huge buffer -- this is a good move," said Kit Wei Zheng, economist at Citigroup in Singapore.

"The question is: do other countries have this level of reserves?" Kit said, adding that most Asian countries were still able to pump prime their economies, with some exceptions in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia, and in South Asia.

Governments around the world have launched multi-billion dollar economic stimulus plans in recent months, a bid to stave off more job losses and prevent an even deeper and longer recession. The United States and Britain are expected to announce further spending plans this week. Singapore's central bank, the Monetary Authority of Singapore, uses its reserves to steer monetary policy by managing the Singapore dollar within an undisclosed trading band.

"I don't think they will tap central bank reserves -- I don't think they will do anything that will compromise the central bank's ability to defend the Singapore dollar," Kit said.

The Government of Singapore Investment Corp invests foreign exchange reserves and says it manages much more than $100 billion, though analysts estimate the figure to be above $300 billion. Seven percent of its portfolio was cash as of March 2008.

The exact size of government reserves, which could also include revenues from land sales and dividends from firms owned by Temasek [TEM.UL], has also never been disclosed.

"We've always said 'the reserves are for a rainy day'. If this is not a rainy day, I don't know what is a rainy day," the Business Times quoted Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong as saying.

Asked how much should be drawn from the reserves, Goh said it depended on the measures that would justify their use.

TAX REBATES, WEAKER SING DOLLAR?

Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam will announce on Thursday a budget that is expected to create a deficit possibly three times bigger than an estimated S$800 million ($538 million), which would be funded by a S$6.4 billion surplus in the fiscal year to March 2008, the government said in November.

"The government is lining up a sizable fiscal stimulus ... which we expect to focus on alleviating the short-term pain," said Goldman Sachs in a report on Monday, adding this could include tax rebates, infrastructure projects and training.

"However, these policy responses may not be aggressive enough to provide a meaningful offset to the global macro headwinds plaguing the economy," it said, revising down its GDP forecast for Singapore to a 4 percent contraction for 2009.

Singapore was the first country in Asia to fall into recession last year, when its non-oil domestic exports slid 7.9 percent as demand weakened in its key trading partners such as the Europe and the United States.

Singapore's budgets amid the Asian financial crisis in 1997/1998 saw one-off rebates on personal income tax and government expenditure up 15 percent, plus two off-cycle budgets, measures that economists believe the city-state may repeate.

Citigroup felt this week's budget would not be aggressive enough with permanent income tax cuts unlikely to be part of the package. It recommended selling into strength on any pre-budget rally in the stock market <.FTSTI>.

"The drop may be aggravated by the risk that the MAS may have to weaken the Singapore dollar, by shifting the nominal effective exchange rate band downwards, before or at the April policy meeting," Citigroup said. (Additional reporting by Melanie Lee; Editing by Jan Dahinten)

... be careful of CNY oranges ...

Chinese New Year is drawing near. When you buy Chinese oranges please beware of the worms inside. These worms are very similar to the texture of the orange and therefore can only be observe if you look carefully (long sighted person may not notice it).

The Chinese government had in fact made efforts to destroy hundreds of tons of these oranges and compensate the farmers for these. But however some culprit may still sell it illegally. That's why we need to be careful.

Whether the worms is harmful to the human body or not is still questionable. But generally if few numbers are consumed it should not make any harm according to doctors. It is advisable to be careful about it.

... bowling ..

haha.. i realized i have never mentioned much about this hobby that i had.. well, i started bowling only in 2007 when i get to know a bowling coach who happens to be my friend..

time passed, things happened.. from starting a bowling team as a hobby group to the present, i had also learnt a lot from this group of friends.. unfortunately, i left the team a while ago due to some personal reasons.. however, i still keep in touch with a few bowling kakis through this group and i'm still bowling with today..

sadly, i realized that i don't know what i want to achieve from this.. i mean, i'm still interested in bowling, but that enthusiasm is not as strong compared to when i started bowling.. we could bowled everyday!!

look at now.. i can easily stop for a week or two.. when i started my degree in august, i had not been bowling for about 3 months.. i hated myself for not being firm enough and continue when i should have..

in order to ‘convince’ myself, i tried very hard to maintain at least once a week routine so i won’t get ‘rusty’. however, it’s not working.. i hated myself.. not able to: get my basics right, pick up my spares and worse still: all my bad habits had returned..

anyway, just went bowling consecutively 2 days but i’m not happy with my results.. i could do an average of 120 on Friday, and yesterday, it’s back to 100.. haiz, i guess i got to start my regular bowling all over again..

was workin today and was checking my uni's mailbox and server.. know that our semester 1 results would be out anytime now..

so had been checking them quite regularly..

and so today, saw what i want to see.. i passed my econ paper!! hooray!! but of course not very gd lah.. out of 2 modules i got a B and a C.. haha..

i think i gonna be happy for a while!
